Candidates should have an appropriate Engineering degree or a good HND or equivalent with a keen interest in analysis or design.

The work is predominantly office based and involves the design and stress analysis of Aerospace and Marine structures. CAD tools for design or Classical, Automated, Finite and Boundary element methods for stress analysis are employed.  You would work with established teams of experienced Engineers.

Graduates are offered a 2 year programme with 6 to 9 month secondments in the main area's of the business with a final 6 month deployment in the role offered to the graduate.

Stress training courses in classical structural analysis, Mathcad, FE and F&DT are provided alongside on the job exposure to state of the art aircraft analysis

Design graduates will be given training in the major CAD systems used within the business

Assessment Centre

Assessment Centre

Those invited to our Assessment Centre will be asked to attend their preferred location for a day assessment should we be looking to recruit for more than one of our sites.  It is a two-way event which will not only help us to decide if you're right for the business but will help you to decide if the engineering discipline and a graduate role is right for you.

 The day will include the following:

  • Interview
  • Site Tour
  • Engineering Knowledge Test
  • Group Exercise
    •  Interview

      You will have an interview with two members of staff; this will include a senior Manager and a representative from HR or another senior member of staff.  You will be expected to talk about your education, qualifications and relevant coursework you have completed.  Expanding on why you feel you are suited to working for GKN Aerospace Engineering Services and what you can bring to the business. You will be invited to ask questions relating to the business and what you can expect when working for GKN Aerospace Engineering Services.

      Site Tour

      A Graduate who has joined the company within the last few years will conduct the site tour.  You will be given a feel for the projects being worked on at the time of your visit and the structure of the business teams.  You are invited to asks question relating to the current projects, the tour guides work and what it is like being a graduate for GKN. This is your opportunity to gain an insight into the business. The tour is not part of the assessment.

      Engineering Knowledge Test

       The Engineering Knowledge Test will be either based on Design Engineering or Stress Engineering, whichever you have indicated to be your preference. This is your opportunity to demonstrate and apply the engineering knowledge that you have gained during your studies/work experience.

      Group Exercise

       The Group Exercise will be introduced and explained to you by a member of staff, this is likely to be a problem solving, team working activity.  Whilst you are completing the exercise Managers will be present to observe your performance and establish your suitability to the company in terms of your skills and abilities displayed during the exercise.

     

    Confirm Your Assessment Centre

     Please phone the contact in your invitation letter or email to confirm that you will be attending.  We're happy to rearrange your appointment if at all possible.  If you are invited to the last assessment centre of the year this will not be possible but in all other instances we will do our best to make other arrangements.

    Travel Expenses

    Train Travel:- Standard class rail fare return.
    Driving:- Will pay a mileage rate, please contact us at the time of your assessment centre for further details.
    Internal Flights:- Will pay if this is the low cost alternative to train fare or driving.
    European Flights:- Please call us in advance of the interview to discuss.
    Overnight Accommodation:- Will only pay overnight accommodation where travel to the assessment centre on the day is not feasible.  This must be agreed with us in advance of the assessment centre.
    In order for us to reimburse your travel costs, please bring your travel receipts when you come to the assessment centre.  Please note that we cannot reimburse you if receipts are not provided (except where driving and the mileage rate applies).

    What to Bring

    If you are asked to attend the assessment day we will ask you to bring GCSE and A'Level certificates and if possible degree certificates (or equivalents).

    You will also be asked to bring your passport for identification, for the company to comply with the UK Asylum and Immigration Act.  If you do not have a passport or it has expired, please bring a document issued by the Inland Revenue detailing your national insurance number together with your full birth certificate.  If you have a different form of documentation issued by the Home Office that permits you to work in the UK, please call us in advance of the assessment centre to discuss.
